Olea Europaea - I'm a classic, and considered by many to be the quintessential Mediterranean courtyard plant. My ancestors were originally found across the Mediterranean, Asia and Africa and thousands of years ago people used the oil from my olives to light their lamps and fires - yes, that amazing oil that people are now told will help them live healthier, happier, longer lives. Although as a tree I prefer to get my nutrients through my roots.

Fun fact: An olive branch features on the flag of the United Nations.

Olive tree - small size

  • In the wild I grow into a medium-sized tree, but I'm very slow growing. I'm much tougher than I look, and I will keep growing whatever the weather. I might add just a few centimetres of height each year with the right care. So if you don't have much room for plants I'll be a perfect companion and won't outgrow your space.
